What was it made for?

This was created during my first year of University for a module called Introduction to 3D Modelling, where I was tasked with creating a list of items in 3DS Max. These included a bottle, clock, log cabin, weapon and vehicle. I was only able to use a certain amount of polygons for each item. The clock item had a maximum amount of 800 polygons (+/- 10%) I could use.

Inspiration and Research

For the clock object I really wanted to create something different and original. I knew what I wanted to do as in the summer I had visited Germany and seen lots of Cuckoo Clocks there (due to Germany being the place of origin for Cuckoo Clocks). I looked online for some reference images and found loads to pick from; again the polygon constraint meant that I had to pick one that didn't have a complex design and, as you can see, the design is relatively basic. I still love this piece and think it turned out really well.
